- Still Life With Bread Crumbs by Anna Quindlan – 2014. A photographer fame is slipping at a time when she’s dealing with additional financial demands. She decides to sublet her NYC apartment and moves temporarily to a country cottage to regroup, meeting interesting people. Nice heartwarming story.
- The Guilty Plea by Robert Rotenberg – 2011. Terence is found murdered the morning of his divorce trial and his wife Samantha is a prime suspect. When she agrees to a plea deal and later recants, an open-and-shut case evolves into a complex trial. Nice twists and turns with good narration by Paul Hecht.
- Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand - 2014. The true story of Louis Zamperini, a young deliquent who becomes an Olympic athlete. When World War II calls him to duty, he's tested in ways that go beyond belief. Sad, yet inspiring.
- The Nanny Diaries Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus – 2002. A young woman accepts a job as nanny, only to find herself sliding into a lose-lose situation with the child’s mother. Touching, funny and sad.
- The Book of Madness and Cures by Regina O’Melveny – 2012. In 17th century Italy, a young woman is banned from practicing medicine because of her gender and she decides to travel in search of her missing father. Thoughtful historical mystery/adventure.
- The Edge of Lost by Kristina McMorris – 2015. A young boy tries to earn his keep by performing in Dublin pubs, but dreams of going to America and becoming famous. You’ll root for him as he experiences life’s ups and downs.
